PayPal integration: when it still makes sense

A PayPal integration means the customer can pay with a PayPal balance or the card stored in PayPal, and your system gets an IPN or webhook when the amount is approved. In Danish B2C shops PayPal is rarely the winner. MobilePay and cards are. PayPal earns its keep when you have foreign customers without a Danish card, digital goods with a brand people already use PayPal for, or an old segment that refuses a new account. Build it as a secondary method. One primary — MobilePay and cards through the gateway. PayPal as an extra button. Not the reverse. Otherwise you train Danish customers into a flow they skip, and you pay PayPal’s fee without a conversion lift.

PayPal makes sense

  • Foreign customers without a Danish card
  • Digital goods where the brand already uses PayPal
  • A segment that refuses to create a new account

Skip it

  • Danish B2C where MobilePay wins
  • B2B with invoice and bank
  • Making PayPal the primary button “because everyone has it”
Who the button is for — and who it is not for.

Address and currency traps

  • The address from PayPal overwrites your delivery address
  • Currency mismatch DKK/EUR
  • Refund only in the PayPal dashboard, not in your admin

Lock the delivery address on your side if you ship goods. Show amounts in DKK, and reconcile what PayPal settles in. Refund should be a button in admin, or the truth lives in another system. The fee is PayPal’s. Our package from 18,000 DKK + 600 DKK/month builds the pipe. Pricing.

B2B almost never needs PayPal

Invoice plus bank plus MobilePay Invoice. If one foreign B2B segment insists, put the button on that invoice — not in the whole checkout. Describe the segment.

FAQ: PayPal integration

Should B2B have PayPal?

Almost never. Invoice, bank and MobilePay Invoice.

May PayPal overwrite the delivery address?

No if you ship physical goods. Take the address from your checkout, not from the PayPal profile.

DKK or EUR in PayPal?

Whatever your agreement settles in. A mismatch is a bookkeeping problem, not a design choice.

Is PayPal the primary button in a Danish shop?

No. MobilePay and cards first. PayPal as an extra button for foreign guests.
