Klarna · pay later

Klarna integration in your checkout

A Klarna integration lets the customer pay later or in instalments inside your checkout, while you typically get paid by Klarna and leave the credit risk with them. It can pay off when the average basket is high enough that 30 days or instalments move the decision — often from around DKK 800 and up, and when you sell to consumers in DK, SE or NO. It does not pay off on a DKK 149 basket, in B2B with a 14-day invoice, or in categories Klarna refuses. The expensive part is not the button. It is keeping your order states and Klarna’s order states from drifting when you capture, cancel and refund.

Show Klarna next to MobilePay. Let the customer choose. Do not force pay-later onto a B2B invoice that already is “pay later”. Payment modules.

When a Klarna integration can pay for itself

Do it

  • Average basket where 30 days or instalments move the decision (typically DKK 800+)
  • You sell to consumers in DK/SE/NO
  • You can accept Klarna’s branded flow

Skip it

  • B2B with an e-conomic invoice and 14-day terms
  • A DKK 149 basket — the fee eats the margin
  • You sell something Klarna refuses (certain categories)
The fee eats margin on small baskets. On large baskets it moves the decision.

What has to be built

1

Session

Checkout creates a Klarna session with lines, VAT and a delivery address.

2

Credit

Klarna approves or declines. A declined credit must not start the warehouse.

3

Capture

You capture when you ship — or cancel if you cannot deliver.

4

Refund / backorder

Partial refunds match backorders so finance and Klarna do not diverge.

Order management is the project. The button is a session.

The expensive part is not “the Klarna button”. It is keeping your order states and Klarna’s from drifting apart.

Klarna is one integration. The transaction fee is Klarna’s, not Ceptiv’s — check their current terms. The build sits in the Small package if it is the only one you need: DKK 18,000 + DKK 600/month. See pricing.

Send average basket, country and whether MobilePay already sits in the same checkout. Then we will say whether Klarna is a lift or a fee.

FAQ: Klarna integration

Can Klarna and MobilePay run side by side?

Yes. Show both. Let the customer choose.

Do we get the money immediately?

Klarna typically pays you and takes the credit risk. Timing and fee sit in your Klarna agreement — not in our package price.

What about backorders?

Capture and refund must follow what you actually ship. Otherwise Klarna holds an amount the warehouse does not know.

Does it work in B2B?

Rarely as a first choice. An e-conomic invoice with 14 days is already pay later — without Klarna’s fee.
